Language as WOK - TOK homework
1) Try to define as
precisely as possible these words: a. triangle, b. love, c. table
Triangle: a shape with 3 corners and 3 sides, there are
different types of triangles depending on the angle of a corner and variations
of lengths of each side. There are no curved lines in a triangle all have to be
straight.
Love: A feeling towards someone, the feeling you have to
someone that you enjoy being accompanied by, someone you like to stay with and
talk to. Or can be that you care about them that you love them, for example a
mother’s love to her children.
Table: a tool, or furniture used to place stuff on top of.
Is most likely a piece of a flat surface that can be in any form or size that
sits on one or more legs, each table differs in its design, how many legs it
has, or the way it is shaped, maybe it does not stand on legs but is just a
large cube that you can place stuff on. A good definition of a table would be
furniture that is used to place everyday stuff on, like books, keys, water
bottles, etc.
What is the
difference?
Each of these words were different from the other, one was a
shape, where I described how it looks like, and facts about the shape. Another
was feeling where I described how it felt to love, where I used different
emotions like caring for someone. The table was similar to the triangle, where
they both had shapes but I described a table as a tool used to place stuff on.
Each word was very different from the other and I had to use different styles
of describing to be able to describe them.
Which was easiest to
define?
In my opinion I think
the triangle was by far the easiest one to define, because all I did was state
facts that I knew about the triangle. I think the hardest one to define was the
table, although I knew what it was, it took me time to think about how to
explain it, because I didn’t know the right word, I didn’t know if a table was considered
a tool or a piece of furniture. And to explain what it was used for took me
time to think about. Where at the end I decided to define it as furniture used
to place everyday stuff on. At the beginning I thought that it would be hard to
define love, but it was easy because I have heard the question before, and I felt
being loved and felt how it is to love someone.
