TOK - a new way to look at emotions

What are emotions? Emotions are feelings that are taken from the persons’ condition or mood. Depending on what happened emotions could change. What makes you happy? Getting sevens in all your subjects in DP? Are you sure that makes you happy or are you misinterpreting the feeling of happiness, but in reality you are not happy but exited for the reward you will get from your parents by achieving such outstanding grades.   In the text “A new way to look at emotions” states that people very often misunderstand how they feel. In the text’s example of Lisa Feldman, a mere infection made her think she was in love with the man. How did feeling sick, make you think that you are interested in someone? Is it because of past experiences, where she had interests in someone while feeling sick, which made her think that when she’s not feeling well and her stomach is churning means that she likes the person. This is only a possibility. The way you interpret the infection is depending on wha...

Cannon-Bard Theory

Image
The cannon-bard theory was created by Walter Cannon and Philip Bard in the 1920s . Who disagreed with the James-Lange theory which states that after experiencing a certain situation the brain first reacts to the situation and then emotional feelings occur, however the Cannon-Bard theory states that both (arousal and emotion) occur the same time after the event. For example, you just went to sleep and while laying in the bed you feel something crawling on your arms. so you decide to open your eyes and find out it was a spider (tarantula). this is when you run away as far as you can from the spider while feeling fear the second you saw the spider. But, in the James-Lange theory states that you will run away and then feel fear.

Standardized tests   Standardized testing has been used for a long time in almost all schools to measure the intelligence and abilities of a student. Standardized testing is not only used in schools but in almost everywhere, from job applications to university applications. One of the most used standardized testing is the SAT, which most universities require a certain score for the application. Many people say that standardized testing are unfair, people come from different cultures and speak many other languages other than English which will be a disadvantage for them in oppose to people with a first language of English. But, there are varieties of intelligence tests made especially for non-English speakers, like the IELTS and the TOEFL tests.   Although many people judge standardized tests as unfair, and claim that it is a bad way to recognize a student’s abilities, in my point of view, standardized tests are very good for teachers to u...

1) Try to define as precisely as possible these words: a. triangle, b. love, c. table Triangle: a shape with 3 corners and 3 sides, there are different types of triangles depending on the angle of a corner and variations of lengths of each side. There are no curved lines in a triangle all have to be straight. Love: A feeling towards someone, the feeling you have to someone that you enjoy being accompanied by, someone you like to stay with and talk to. Or can be that you care about them that you love them, for example a mother’s love to her children. Table: a tool, or furniture used to place stuff on top of. Is most likely a piece of a flat surface that can be in any form or size that sits on one or more legs, each table differs in its design, how many legs it has, or the way it is shaped, maybe it does not stand on legs but is just a large cube that you can place stuff on. A good definition of a table would be furniture that is used to place everyday stuff on, like book...

English Blog

the things that interest me are things that are new, that are fun and enjoyable. to be honest i am not the type of person that likes to study or read a book. for example i would rather watch a movie that was created based on a book, than read the book itself. Language is a huge part in my life, it is a part of everything that I do or learn. I use language anywhere I go. For example while in a restaurant, I use language to communicate to the person who receives the order of what I would like to have, I read language to know what they offer. I use language to navigate anywhere simply by communicating to people around me using language. I believe it is very important to study language, to be able to communicate to people, to express your opinions and feelings to them. The more you study language the more you learn new words, and knowing lots of words will make it a lot easier for you to communicate how you feel to the people around you, and they will understand more about your...
