English intro

The personal history of an author can have a significant influence on the way meaning is constructed in his/her writing. Comment* on specific instances of such influence in Things Fall Apart. The novel “Things fall apart” by the African writer Achinua Abebe. The novel is mostly about African culture and how western cultures have influenced the Igbo culture. Tells the reader of how British colonization has had affect there. The writer being African has had affect on the theme of the book, as the writer himself stated that the reason for writing the book was to educate the public of African cultures, and show that they were civilized before the British civilization. As an African writer, he shows his entire civilization in a correct way, however if it was an English writer, he would write only on his one point of view on Africa.

Particles moving faster than light? TOK

What was the anomalous observation in the articles above? An observation was made that “startled” the science world where showing that particles can travel faster than the speed of light.   What was the paradigm that was challenged by this observation? Based on Einstein’s theory that nothing can be faster than the speed of light and which is theoretically proven to be true. What startled them is the observation of appearing particles sent from France to Italy 730km away, where particles that were sent “appeared” to be faster than light. How was the science community trying to resolve this situation? It was considered impossible for anything to travel at a faster speed than light because particles that have mass require force to accelerate them, the faster the object moves the more energy is required same goes with mass, the greater the mass the more energy needed to accelerate. Light is a particle with no mass, meaning very little or not energy is...

Ethical limitations on science - GMO

Modifying genes of plants and animals for better quality   Since Genetically modified organisms (GMO) were possible, large food companies started to use the discovery of modifying genes on plants and animals to make them taste and look better, and to last longer. People argue that GMO stops the spread of dangerous diseases through food, but can also be modified to do other things like not being able to produce seeds to reproduce. Large companies don’t want the consumers to grow their own foods, to prevent that they remove the seeds from the fruit by changing its genes to produce seeds. This would cause less seed planting and decrease the number of certain trees, as more fruits become seedless. The scientific community has no control over this, as multi national huge companies that have power are doing this to improve their products and increase profits. The Monsanto scientist discovered and made their first GMO in 1983. This technology was patented and companies would hav...

His harsh childhood experiences are what determined his ethnicity and interests, and why he got into hip-hop. Shakur uses his own dialect to express the way he feels through hip-hop, where he wrote songs about all the violence and the harsh life of his community. Tupac even talked wrote about racism against his own race, how the upper communities looked down on his race and how they judge a black person from his external looks especially the way he talks. Shakur wanted to stop all this through his music and to represent and honor his race, to stop the racism. Ethical Considerations in the Arts

The movie series 13 reasons why has been criticized by suicide experts that it has evoked the suicide rates and suicide searches on Google. Netflix, who created the series rejected all the arguments and evidence that the show arouses suicide rates. Sophie Gilbert said, “Netflix and the producers have repeatedly claimed that the show is raising awareness around the subject of suicide” both sides argue. Should there be ethical considerations? Well younger people tend to get influenced easier than older people. Statistics show for a fact that 13 reasons why has increased suicide rates. This shows that the show has influenced people, and has the power to affect emotions, which made them commit suicide. Many different forms of arts have power to influence people, possibly even control over them in an indirect way. A good example is “Blue Whale” where children were led to suicide from playing the game. Art definitely has the power to alter people’s emotions. I think that arts sends a...
